Thomas Aloysius Rooney
Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, 95
Mr. Thomas Aloysius Rooney 95, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue, on Wednesday, January 24, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield on Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington with naval military honors.
Tom was born in New York City and was raised in Teaneck, NJ and Rutland, VT. He resided in Bloomfield, NJ for 55 years. Tom was an active member and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield before moving to Toms River four years ago.
Tom earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange. He then worked for the FBI’s Communications Code Room Division where messages were coded and decoded to all FBI Agents in US Field Offices and Embassies worldwide. After working for the FBI, he served honorably in the United States Navy.
Tom was later recalled to active duty and assigned to the Potomac River Naval Command Headquarters, Washington DC. He attended President Eisenhower’s Inaugural Ball as Naval Attache to the Secretary of Defense.
Tom then resumed his business career working for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell CPA Auditing Firm for many years. He was then employed by ABC-TV as Director of ABC Corporate Disbursements. As part of the ABC Team he was also part of the on-field camera crew for Monday Night Football Games and many other sporting events. His most memorable event was the operation involving the Lake Placid Winter Olympics, when the United States Hockey Team upset Russia and won the Olympic Gold Medal. Tom worked for ABC for 25 years before retiring.
Tom lived a remarkable and fulfilling life, but his greatest joy was raising his beautiful family along with the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Victoria. Together they raised their five children in Bloomfield. He cherished his life as a devoted husband and father. He loved vacationing with Victoria and his children all over the U.S. and Canada, taking photographs of their trips, attending Army Games as a season ticket holder and being involved in and supporting his children’s activities.
He is survived by his beloved children Victoria Hansen and her husband Robert, Kevin Rooney and his wife Joanna, Sharon Magrini and her husband Eugene, Michael Rooney and his wife Stacey, and Meagan Rooney; his cherished grandchildren Michael Rhein and his fiance` Jennifer Bugbee, Zachary Rhein and his wife Brianna, Brianna Zingaro and her husband Matthew, Brittany McCabe and her husband Rickey, Christina Magrini and her fiance` Myles Gross, Kayla Williams and her husband Christian, Tyler Rooney, Colton Rooney and Alexandra Rooney; and his precious great-grandchildren Olivia McCabe, Kane Rhein and Jayce Zingaro.
Tom is predeceased by his wife Victoria (Takazauckas) Rooney (2019), and his grandson Joseph Rhein.
