Beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Uncle, 67
Stephen Murphy, 67, of Nutley, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Friday, June 10, 2022. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Thursday, June 16 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, June 17 at 8:45 a.m. There will be a funeral mass celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield at 10:00 a.m. The cremation will be held privately.
Originally from Richmond Hill, Queens (son of the late Steve and Mary Murphy), Steve and his wife Cathleen (of 43 years) moved to NJ to start their own family 37 years ago.
Steve, better known to loved ones as Dad, Murf, Mr. Murf and Big Steve will be remembered for his love of the beach, enjoying the Sunday morning papers, his hatred of Long Island traffic, an uncanny ability to execute the perfect Irish goodbye, the biggest sense of humor, his ‘on the edge of your seat’ storytelling ability and the undying love he had for his family and friends.
For a guy who enjoyed peace and quiet, typically in the form of a glass of red wine and cigar on the back deck, he spent every chance he got with his wife, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors at home in Nutley, and his favorite place, Manasquan, NJ.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Cathleen, daughter Megan, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Kristen, his English bulldog Ruthie, his 4 loving siblings; Mary Hardiman (John), Eileen Smollet (Dave), Liz Farrell (Gary) Tim Murphy (Trish), sister-in-law Ann Bozzo (Mike), brother-in-law Fred Dinkelacker, brother-in-law Bobby Dinkelacker and brother-in-law Jimmy Lorenzen (Laura); along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him over the years.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of MSK, New York, NY and Monmouth County Hospice for the care and compassion they gave to Steve and his family.
