Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather, 66
Mr. Salvatore Mattia, 66, of Belleville, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022, at Mountainside Medical Center, Glen Ridge. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Thursday, January 13 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, January 14 at 9:15 a.m. There will be a funeral mass celebrated at St. Lucy’s Church, 118 7th Ave #1897, Newark, at 10:45 a.m. The interment will be at Glendale Cemetery, 28 Hoover Ave, Bloomfield.
Sal was born and raised in Newark, where he graduated Barringer High School in 1973 and has resided in Belleville since 1987. He was employed by F&G Mechanical, Secaucus for many years. Sal was a die-hard Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers fan. He played and also coached softball. Sal played drums for many years and was an original member of Sidewalk Symphony. He was also an avid fan of the Rock band Chicago. Debbie and Sal celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary on September 27, 2021.
Sal is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years Debbie (nee Dohrenwend) Mattia; his two loving daughters Nicole Casale and her husband Vito and Michele Mattia and her loving boyfriend Matthew Whitford; his cherished grandchildren Vito Salvatore and Sofia Rose Casale. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear lifelong friends who were like brothers to him.
Sal is predeceased by his father Salvatore Mattia, his step-father Ennio and his mother Italia (nee D’Alessio) Marcantuono; he is also predeceased by his two brothers and his two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project
