Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, 70

Mr. Richard A. Ulley, 70, of Nutley, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Hackensack University Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.  Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue, on Wednesday, May 3, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  There will be a funeral service celebrated at the funeral home on Thursday, May 4th, at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Cantor Ellen.  The interment will be at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936.

Richard was born in The Bronx, NY, and grew up in Lake Hiawatha before moving to Nutley in 1973.  He was the proud owner of three Smokehouse BBQ restaurants throughout NJ before retiring in 2014.  In his spare time, you could either find him fishing or horseback riding.  His greatest passion, however, was food, and nothing made him happier than whipping up a meal and enjoying it surrounded by his family and friends.  You never left his home hungry! On Sundays, you could find him shouting plays at his favorite teams, the NY Giants and the Miami Dolphins. Richard sure had the gift for gab, just ask his brother-in-law, Greg, or his children, grandchildren or whoever was willing to listen, who he called every day, often multiple times a day, to fill them in on all the family gossip. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan (nee Steinmeyer) Ulley; his devoted children, Stacie Erlemann and her husband Robert, Keith Ulley and his fiancé Kelly, Dr. Sean Ulley-Ferri and his husband Joshua; and his most cherished grandchildren Robert and Victoria Erlemann.  He is also survived by his best friend for the last 9 years, his dog Koda.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Judith (nee Strauss) Ulley.
