 Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather and Uncle 77

Mr. John J. Scelfo, 77, of Nutley, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 after a long illness at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Thursday, September 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The interment will be held privately.

Mr. Scelfo was born in Newark and was a resident of Nutley for 50 years. John proudly served in the United States Army. He attended Montclair State University and earned his had Master's degrees in Administration & Supervision and Environmental Science. He taught in the Bloomfield School system for 40 years and was the director of the Bloomfield Adult School for 17 years. John was an Asbury Park Fishing Club member. He was an avid woodworker, a member of the North Jersey Woodworkers Association and the Worldwide Woodworkers & Makers group. John will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and concern for others, his love of his children and grandchildren and his passion for fishing and the outdoors.
 

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Jane (nee Berenson) Scelfo; his cherished children David Scelfo and his wife Michelle, Andy Scelfo and his wife Rita; his precious grandchildren Katelyn, Lauren, and Jackson Scelfo; his brother Richard Scelfo and his wife Pat; he is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Scelfo is predeceased by his parents John and Nancy (nee DeLorenzo) Scelfo.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John’s memory to Hackensack River Keepers or Nutley Family Services Bureau.
