Mr. Jerry D’Alessio Jr, 87 of Belleville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday January 5, 2024 at Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ. There will be a funeral service celebrated at the Biondi Funeral Home 540 Franklin Avenue, Nutley on Thursday January 11, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service. The cremation will be held privately.
Jerry was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, graduating from Central High School before moving to Belleville in 1967. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Kean University, Union. Jerry served honorably in the U.S. Navy.
Jerry began his law enforcement career in 1969 with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. In 1979 he was shot in the line of duty. Jerry bravely fought his way back to rise through the ranks to Deputy Chief where he proudly worked alongside his son Vito. His career was filled with distinction and honor. He retired as a Deputy Chief in 1994.
Jerry enjoyed his retirement by cooking dinners and hosting holidays for his family and friends, especially his five grandchildren. Affectionately known as POP POP, he was always present at sporting events, school activities, and family functions. A true gentleman that was unselfish, caring and generous, while always being the first person to lend a hand or support a worthy cause for those in need.
Jerry is survived by beloved sons Jerry D’Alessio II and his wife Natalie, Vito D’Alessio and his wife Tara; his five cherished grandchildren Gerard, Joseph, Donna, Anthony, and Jerry III; his beloved brother John D’Alessio and his wife Rita; his dearest sisters-in-laws Angela Amorosi and Louise D’Alessio; and also his many loving nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Linda (nee Guarino) D’Alessio (1999); and his parents Jerry and Anna (nee Rizzo) D’Alessio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you remember Jerry’s kindness and compassion and pay it forward.
