Beloved Sister, Aunt, Family Matriarch, 91

Filomena “Phyllis” (nee Benedetto) Giordano, 91, of Belleville, NJ, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Wednesday, August 18 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, August 19 at 9:15 a.m.  There will be a funeral mass celebrated at Holy Family Church, 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley at 10:30 a.m.  The cremation will be held privately.

Phyllis was born in Newark, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Belleville, NJ.  She was employed by New Jersey Bell/AT&T for over 40 years.   Phyllis began her career as an operator, and worked her way up to become the first female in a management position retiring as a Manager in 1987.  

After retirement Phyllis opened a small boutique “Somethin Special” in Montclair, NJ which she operated for many years.  She was the matriarch of her family.  Phyllis’ greatest joy was organizing extravagant family functions.

She is survived by her devoted sisters Josephine “Joy” Emery, Victoria Cancelliere, Barbara Benedetto and Jean Benedetto.  She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Eugene and Julia (nee Luzzo) Benedetto, and her sisters Florence McIntire and Julia Potter.
