Bartolomeo Viola Obituary

 Bartolomeo “Roberto” Viola

Beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Grandfather, 65

Mr. Bartolomeo “Roberto” Viola, 65, of Belleville, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville. A private funeral mass will be celebrated  for the family members.

Bartolomeo “Roberto” Viola was born and raised in Partinico, Palermo, Sicily.  He emigrated to Irvington, NJ in 1972 with his mother and brother, before moving to Belleville in 1980.  Shortly after arriving in the US, Roberto met and married Lina.  Lina was the love of Roberto’s life.  They were married 42 years.  Roberto’s pride and joy are his children Gaspare Viola and his wife Romina, Rosalia Minervini and her husband Corrado, and Vincenzo Viola.  Roberto was a very proud and loving Nonno.  His legacy continues with Michael, Giuliana, Mia, Ava, CJ, and Vianna.

Roberto was a bright light, such a strong force, incredible sense of humor, loved his family fiercely, and adored all of his family, amazing chef, adventurer, traveler, dog lover, sports fanatic, and so much more.  Roberto never missed an opportunity to cheer for his Jets, Mets, and his beloved Italia. He was loyal like no other, strong, brave, kind, humble, and hard working.

Roberto was an accomplished chef.  At one point he realized that his dream was to own his own restaurant. He soon opened his own restaurant Cafe Amalfi. He later was employed as a chef at Mr. Bruno's Restaurant, Lyndhurst . Roberto had a giant heart and loved to spoil his family and friends with his gift and talent of cooking amazing Italian meals.  His vodka sauce will be missed by too many to count.

Roberto lived life to the fullest and enjoyed travelling home to his beloved Sicily.  He spent many summers under the splendid Sicilian sky, spending time with his loving cousins.

His favorite place to be was on the Mediterranean Sea.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Raffaela (nee Lardone) Viola; his devoted children Gaspare Viola and his wife Romina, Rosalia Minervini and her husband Corrado, and Vincenzo Viola; his cherished grandchildren Michael, Mia, Vianna, Giuiliana, Ava, and Corrado, Jr.; his loving brothers Andrea Viola and his wife Rosa, Antonio Viola and his wife Elenora and Salvatore Viola; sisters in law Teresa Arce and her husband Anthony, Patrizia Acquaviva and her husband Vincent, Anna Angelo and her husband Gene. Roberto is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Leonarda and Vincenzo Lardone, as well as his many adoring nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Gaspare Viola and Rosalia (nee Termine) Viola in addition to his brother-in-law, Alfonzo Lardone..

Roberto will be missed by his many friends.  He loved to spend time with the people that were important to him and never missed an opportunity to say I Love You.

Roberto was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.  His memory and legacy will live on by all who knew and loved him; especially his wife, children and grandchildren. Nonno, may you rest in peace and know how very much we love you and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
