Beloved Brother and Uncle

Mr. Salvatore G. Figliuzzi, 95, of Bloomfield, NJ, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Job Haines Nursing Home, Bloomfield. The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Thursday, December 28 at 8:15 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Newark at 9:30 a.m. The entombment will be at Hollywood Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, Union. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 27 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. 

Mr. Figliuzzi was born in Serra San Bruno, Italy and immigrated to Newark, NJ at the age of 6 with his family in 1928 before moving to Bloomfield, NJ many years ago. He graduated with Honors from Barringer High School, Newark in 1941. Mr. Figliuzzi received a scholarship to study in Italy but the war in Europe prevented him from attending. He worked at the Otis Elevator Company as Head Expeditor in Harrison for 39 years until the plant closed in 1980. Mr. Figliuzzi was an active member of the Otis Elevator Union, serving as President and other official positions throughout his membership. He was a soloist for many years at St. Francis Xavier Church, Newark. Mr. Figliuzzi was a member of the Rho Beta Delta Fraternity, a men’s social club.

He is survived by his loving sister Marie Malavarca and his brother Ralph Figliuzzi; his cherished nieces and nephews Grace Marino and her husband Frank, Betty Guglielmino and her husband Richard, Ripalta Nunziato, Oscar Malavarca; his grandnieces and grandnephews Christopher Marino, Oscar Malavarca and his wife Aki, Andrea Guglielmino, Michael Marino, Matthew Malavarca, Lisa Annese and her husband Angelo and Marco Malavarca.

Mr. Figliuzzi is predeceased by his father Bruno, his mother Maria (nee Raffele) and his brothers Joseph and Louis.
