Mr. Ralph Sandor, 107, of Oakland, NJ, formerly of Passaic, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Oradell Healthcare Center. The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Friday, January 26 at 8:30 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 10 St. Francis Way, Passaic at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 25 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Sandor was born in Italy and resided in Passaic before moving to Oakland. He received a college degree in Engineering, and was the City Engineer for the City of Passaic for 25 years before retiring in 1979. He served honorably as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and is credited with saving two fellow sailors who nearly drowned. Mr. Sandor was also known as a successful inventor. He enjoyed golf, pool and cards as a past time. He also enjoyed playing his mandolin and ukulele. For many years he enjoyed going to his summer home in Cape Cod. Mr. Sandor was a very generous and caring man who made donations to many various organizations and churches.
He is survived by his beloved nephews Thomas Sandor, Sr., Anthony Russo, Sr., Thomas Cioce, and Douglas Kuhn, Sr.; his beloved nieces Anita Russo Lipari, Rosemarie Russo Trentacost, Grace Sandor Kula, Anna Sandor Raffo, Barbara Kuhn, and Meredith Kuhn Mangan.
Mr. Sandor is predeceased by his wife Josephine (nee Beardsley) Sandor; his parents Gaetano and Carmela; his brothers Michael and Edward; his sisters Anna Russo and Marie Cioce; his nephews Michael Sandor, Richard Sandor, Joseph Russo, Sr., Carmen Russo, Sr, Thomas Russo, Sr., Richard Cioce, Sr.; and his nieces Emily Sandor Petrullo, Eleanor Sandor Schwer, Jean Sandor Patterson, Dorothy Sandor Alexander, and Carmela Sandor Schevon.
