Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, 83
Mr. Jerry A. Stoia, 83, of Belleville, NJ, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his wife and loving family. The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Friday, July 13 at 9:30 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Nutley at 10:45 a.m. The interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 12 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Jerry was born in Newark, NJ on May 28, 1935 and was the son of the late Mary (Monterale) Stoia and Alfonse Stoia, Sr. He graduated from East Side High School in Newark in 1953. He married Phyllis (Gazzio) Stoia on October 3, 1959. Jerry managed Stoia Lumber for many years. He was a skilled carpenter and owned/operated Gerard Construction Company early in his career. Jerry proudly served his country and was honorable discharged from the US Army Reserves. Jerry was an outstanding cook and loved to share his meals with friends and family. A kind and loving man, Jerry could always be counted on to help friends, family and community members in need and was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nutley.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Phyllis Stoia, children Gina Marie (Stoia) Russell and husband James Russell, Gerard Stoia and wife Lisa Stoia, sisters Sophie Stoia, Anna (Stoia) Ricciardi and Ralph Martucci, grandchildren Andrew and Olivia Russell and Celena, Chloe and Elijah Stoia, and favorite sister-in-law Lucille Trotola. He’s also survived by his dear friends Barbara Capalbo and Vincent Corsello (Jerry’s Kidney donor), and beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by brothers Anthony Stoia and Alfonse Stoia, Jr., sisters-in-law Betsy Stoia and Jackie Stoia, mother-in-law Dolly (Cicalese) Gazzio Bartone, fathers-in-law Frank Gazzio and Jerry Bartone, and brother-in-law Alfred Trotola.
