Beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, 96
Mr. Daniel J. Durando, 96, of Nutley, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at his home. There will be a funeral service celebrated at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Tuesday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. The interment will be at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield with military honors . Visitation will be on Monday, February 11 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Durando was born in Nutley, NJ and was a lifelong resident. He was an Inspector for ITT, Nutley for over 40 years before retiring in 1984. Mr. Durando
served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in England and France in the 783rd Army Depot (Railroad Division). Danny was an avid Nutley sports fan, known for patrolling the Nutley Park Oval from the 1930’s until 2018 watching his beloved Maroon Raiders. He was loved by many friends and wonderful neighbors and cared for recently by a compassionate team of healthcare workers.
He is survived by his beloved children Dennis Durando and his wife Nancy, and Ronald Durando and his wife Karen; his loving sister Josephine (Tootsie) Froats; his cherished grandchildren Dennis, Jr. and his wife Jessica, Jennifer, Danielle, Ryan and Kori; and his precious great-grandchildren Owen Daniel and Blakely Ryan. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews, and his loving caretaker and companion Bozena (Bea).
In his teenage years, Daniel worked at the Nutley Veladrome selling candy, and then worked as a caddy at the Yountakah (Yanticaw) Country Club, Nutley, often caddying for the Dorsey Brothers and other celebrities of that era. Many of his retirement years were spent walking in Boys Park and playing Bocce Ball with good friends.
Daniel is predeceased by his wife Evelyn (nee Dougan) Durando, his son David Durando, and his siblings Joseph, Frank, Dominick, Louis (Sonny), Henry Durando, Angelina Gaspar, Mary Biondi, Evelyn Bross, and Minnie Trippodi.
