Maria Nely Ros

Maria Nely (nee Rodriguez) Ros, 80, of Clifton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Wednesday, March 27 at 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass celebrated on Wednesday, March 27 at St. Brendan’s Church, 154 East 1st Street, Clifton at 10:00 am. The entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, 770 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah.

Nely was born in Las Regas, Ourense, Spain on March 13, 1944. Nely grew up in a nurturing environment on a farm in Galicia, Spain where she developed a deep love for her family, animals, and community. Nely spent her childhood on the farm, attending school, taking care of her animals and loving and being loved by her family. 

At the age of 16, she emigrated to Newark, NJ, to join her siblings Carmen and Jose, beginning a new chapter in the United States. Nely met her husband, Luis Ros, at a Spanish dance in New York City, and they were married on December 15, 1962. Nely worked as a quality controller in the perfume industry before retiring in 1996.

Her greatest joy came from being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She showered her family with unconditional love, always creating cherished memories with her grandchildren. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and culinary skills. Her famous “chorizo” recipe, created alongside her sister Carmen, as well as her “mantecados” recipe will be treasured and passed down for generations. A devout parishioner at St. Brendan’s Church, Nely’s faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and relationships.  

Nely is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years Luis Ros; her loving sons, Luis Miguel and his wife Lina,  Agustin and his wife Ann; her cherished grandchildren, Esteban, Isabel, Daniel and Augustine; her dear brother Jose Rodriguez and his wife Virginia, her loving nieces and nephews, along with a host of relatives and friends.

Nely is predeceased by her parents Marcial and Josefa and her siblings Concha, Carmen and Eligio.
