Mr. Louis J. Franklin, 92, of East Orange, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 in Middletown, NJ. The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Saturday, September 30 at 8:15 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Nutley at 9:30 a.m. The entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover with military honors. Visitation will be on Friday, September 29 from 4:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m.
He was born in Clairton, PA, to John and May (Scipio) Franklin (deceased) and resided with his family in Newark, NJ along with his brother Charles (deceased) and sister Marie of Belleville, NJ.
Louis attended Newark College of Engineering and served in the US Army Air Corp. during the European Campaign, 1943-1945, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
In 1946 he married Anna May Norman (deceased) and had two loving children Louis John Franklin and Anna Mae Franklin.
On November 1, 1969, Louis married Ernestina Rita Iacobacci and became the loving step-father to Mary Trezza.
In 1969 Louis became an Essex County Sheriff’s Department ID & Fingerprint Bureau Officer until he retired in 1989.
Louis enjoyed photography, watching the NY Yankees and going to Atlantic City, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends who were all very important to him. He was a devoted husband and father, a caring and generous man who eagerly helped everyone who needed it.
Louis is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Ernestina; sister Marie and husband Frank Bravette; children, Louis, Anna Mae and Mary; grandchildren, Tina, Robert and Rich; nieces/nephews: (Franklin) John (deceased), Mark and Marianne; (Bravette) Angela, Maryann, John and Frank; special recognition to Bobbi and Ron (Friday night dinners), and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him very much.
